Publix Contactless Payment

Sharing is caring!

I really like this idea to avoid touching the pad. I’m glad Publix is doing this. I will be using this feature even after this virus is over with since I’m always holding my phone and I don’t have to open my wallet to get the card.

Publix is rolling out contactless pay to all its stores, including GreenWise Market. The rollout is expected to be completed by Saturday, April 4.
This is one more measure Publix is taking to protect the health and well-being of its customers and associates during the coronavirus pandemic.

Contactless payment is made by placing a smartphone or contactless pay-enabled credit or debit card near a contactless-enabled device, rather than swiping or inserting a card into the PIN pad.
The most commonly known forms of contactless payments are Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay. Customers will be able to use this contactless payment option at select stores today and chainwide beginning April 4. This digital payment method will be in addition to the existing mobile payment option through the Publix app, which customers can still use to finalize their purchases.

Here are the steps on how to use your Publix app account as a contactless payment. I just added my payment and it was pretty easy.

Step 1:
Go to your Publix account profile then click My Wallet.

Step 2:
Add a card you prefer to use

Step3:
During check out, click this “Pay” tab on your Publix account app.

Step 4:
Enter the PIN number you set up on your account.

Step 5:
Scan the QR code on the Publix screen with your phone and it should automatically pay with the preferred card on your Publix app account.

Also, you add a debit card as payment, you will get $5 off $25 which will be loaded to your Publix account wallet.
Simply follow the steps below.

Read more about the Contactless Payment FAQS

What is a contactless payment?
A contactless payment is performed with a contactless-enabled device, rather than swiping or inserting a card into the PIN pad.

What devices can be used for contactless payments?
Any credit or debit card, key fob, smart watch, smart phone, or other mobile device that contains a near field communication, or NFC, antenna.

What payment apps do you accept?
We accept Apple Pay®, Android Pay™, Samsung Pay® , Google Pay™, and other NFC payment apps. We also support contactless pay through the Publix app for iPhone® and Android.™

How do I know if my device supports contactless payment?
The device must be equipped with a payment application (app) and the near field communication, or NFC, feature. Every device is different, so you’ll need to check with the device manufacturer or service provider.

How do I know if my credit and/or debit card supports contactless payment?
If you want to use your physical card for a contactless payment, it must have the universal contactless logo and/or must have the term printed on the card.

Is my credit and/or debit card required to have the contactless logo in order to use it within the payment app on my device?
No; however, when setting up your payment card within your app, your bank must authenticate the card and authorize its use for contactless payments.

Do I really tap my device on the PIN pad?
The industry uses the term tap. However, the card or device simply needs to be held or placed over a certain area on the PIN pad for it to transmit information. On our PIN pads, the contactless card or device must be held over the black surface area to the left of the keypad.

Are contactless payments made with my device secure?
When you add a card to your payment application or device, a virtual account number is created. This account number is used in place of your actual card number, along with a unique value for each transaction. This makes each transaction unique to assist with fraud protection.

Will I need to enter my PIN during checkout?
If the card within your payment app can be used as debit, you may be prompted to enter a PIN.

I performed a contactless transaction in your store, but it’s not reflected in my payment app. Why?
If the transaction was approved at the point of sale, your payment app may need time to update. If the problem persists, contact your financial institution or service provider for additional assistance.

Certain cards within my contactless device were declined in your store. Can you help me understand why?
These declines may have something to do with how the card has been set up within the payment app. You’ll need to contact your financial institution to resolve the issue.

How do I set up my card within my payment device?
Every payment application is different. You’ll need to download the payment app specific to your device, then follow the instructions provided to set up your card.

Can I use my contactless device at self-checkout?
Yes. The PIN pads at self-checkout will not have the contactless logo on the screen, however, they can still accept contactless payments.

Can I pay for a portion of my order using a contactless payment method?
Yes, but you’ll need to inform the cashier how much you would like to pay prior to tapping your device/card.

Are there any fees associated with using my contactless payment?
Publix does not charge a fee for using your contactless payment in our store. Consult your financial institution or service provider with any questions regarding their fee structure.

How can I prevent others from using my device as payment?
Most devices have some form of password protection. Consult your financial institution or service provider with any questions regarding the security of your device.

Can my information be compromised through the use of my device?
Consult your financial institution or service provider with any questions regarding the security of your device.

Is there a transaction limit when using contactless payments?
Your financial institution will determine any guidelines or limits they’d like for the number of contactless transactions and/or the dollar amount per transaction.

Will I continue to earn rewards and benefits from my credit and debit cards if I use contactless payment?
Check with your financial institution to understand how they handle benefits and rewards for contactless transactions.

Can contactless be used to receive a refund?
Yes; however, the card being refunded must be a credit card.

When I perform a contactless transaction, the last four digits from my card don’t match what’s printed on my receipt. Why?
Within your payment app there are two numbers that reference your payment card. These numbers are the last four digits from your physical card and the last four digits of the device account number (also known as the virtual account number) that’s created when you add your card to the app. When paying with your device, the last four digits of the device/virtual account will be shown on the receipt.

My payment application always defaults to a certain card; how can I pay with another card within my app?
Before tapping, you’ll need to open the app and select the card you wish to pay with.
